Yamaha G2 shift

Good morning, I am newbie cart owner and have a few issues with my 1998 G2 cart rear end as sometimes it won't go from forward to neutral to reverse unless you turn off the engine any help would be appreciated.

that is not a bad thing
it is so you can't shift while the cart is engaged ... it would strip the gears
now dose it shift when your at a stop and engine off ?(with out the key)
i believe the is the G2 wiring

You are supposed to be at a complete stop before shifting but it's a cart so when you stop the engine shuts off. That's how it works.
